TOURIST INFORMATION ABOUT ISPICA BEACH

The city of Ispica stands on a small hill and is about 7 km. from the sea. The city center is among the most functional and modern of the province but it is characterized by beautiful art baroque and liberty palaces , with beautiful churches and the streets are wide and straight. Its origins are very remote, and in this territory, in fact, settled the Siculi, one of the most ancient peoples of Sicily. Originally the town was located at the end of the Cave, where it is easily defensible and in an area rich of water, but, following the 1693 earthquake, was rebuilt in its current position, near the cave. The history of this ancient city begins with the arrival of the Normans. Although the village is located 7 km from the sea, the city of Ispica has a very impressive and varied coastline, with long beaches, mainly in the area of Santa Maria del Focallo, blended with the rocky ridges of the area of Cirica and Porto Ulisse.
